Ashram College
The Ashram College in Alphen aan den Rijn is a modern secondary school offering VMBO, HAVO, Atheneum, and Gymnasium education, where students thrive in a contemporary learning environment. However, the original building, dating back to the late 1970s, no longer met modern standards. Renovation proved unfeasible, prompting the Scope Scholengroep to opt for an entirely new building. Rijnstaal was commissioned by ADS Group to play a pivotal role in realizing this ambitious project.

Comprehensive Construction Solutions

For the Ashram College project, we were responsible for fabricating and assembling the entire steel framework for the new school building. But our contribution didn’t end there. In addition to the steelwork, we also managed the installation of concrete floors and walls, ensuring a seamless and streamlined construction process by integrating and coordinating these critical elements. This approach minimized interfaces between trades and enhanced project efficiency.
In later phases, we installed the internal steelwork, including stair railings, fencing, and other metal details, adding functional and safe finishing touches to the building.
Overcoming Logistical Challenges
Constructing the new Ashram College posed several logistical challenges. The L-shaped design of the building meant that the long side of the “L” bordered existing structures and a nearby road, leaving limited space for cranes and other heavy machinery. To overcome this, we strategically positioned the crane inside the building, working systematically outward to ensure safety and efficiency.
Additionally, the phased construction process required building the new structure while parts of the old school remained standing. This demanded meticulous planning and precise coordination to keep the project on track and ensure safety throughout.
